When a man decides to sell a packed box of food for a cheaper price than their competition, but reduces the size of the dish, while adding more of the cheaper yet tasty crackers inside, is that good, bad, or is it a grey area (read: smart)?
Lies have its consequences: losing the trust of God and others, delaying blessing for family and friends, rendering your worship meaningless, living with condemnation, having your integrity and reputation destroyed, and having misunderstandings.
So how to be honest?
- Be merciful and remember that only God is perfect, while people make mistakes
- Express your feelings and be comfortable to being able to tell your emotions, without judging the other person or playing the blame game
- Set the right expectation and again, people are imperfect, a good standard is not
- Don’t exaggerate and tell the truth as it is
- If you don’t know don’t speak and avoid the eagerness to be in every conversation
- Be smart but genuine and in the example above, be genuine that the step is necessary to be taken in order to compete
- Be wise to know when to speak the truth and when to keep it secret Ð being honest doesn’t mean you cannot close your lips and say nothing
- Learn to be responsible and accept the consequences of your action and take the initiative to improve yourself
